Sweet and Sour Sauce

Sweet and Sour SauceAllrecipes

3/4 cup white sugar
1/3 cup white vinegar
2/3 cup water
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 tablespoons cornstarch

Place the sugar, vinegar, water, soy sauce, ketchup and cornstarch in a medium saucepan, and bring to a boil. Stir continuously until the mixture has thickened.

Note: Wanting to make sweet-and-sour pork, this worked very well. After browning the meat and sauteing the vegetables, I simmered the mixture in this sauce. I substituted brown sugar for the white sugar, apple cider vinegar for the white vinegar, and I used pineapple juice drained from the can of tidbits for the water. Simmer to your desired level of thickness.
